Beylerbeyi Palace is often praised as the most beautiful Neo-Classical building in Istanbul.
In the original wooden palace of Beylerbeyi, Sultan Abdülmecit personally tested Samuel Morse's newly invented telegraph in 1847. He immediately issued a royal patent to Morse, the world's first patent for the telegraph.
The old wooden palace was later destroyed by fire, and the current marble palace was built in its place. Many famous guests, such as French Empress Eugenie, Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph and Persian Shah Nasireddin stayed in this palace during their visits to Istanbul.
