Philipshaus consists of two parts: a two-story structure straddled at one end by a slab-like tower. The tower is carried by two large piers, with floorloads counterbalanced by cantilevers at either end.
Philips was the first major company to move its offices out of Vienna's center. Their new building, situated atop a ridge, was for many years a dominant landmark greeting travellers approaching the city from the south.
