• Part of the WPA project era.
• One of the largest buildings in the LA basin for decades, located next door to City Hall.
• Headquarters of the largest and busiest federal court district in the U.S. until completion of the new $293 million Los Angeles Federal Courthouse at Civic Center, two blocks east.
• Opened as the U.S. Post Office and Court House.
• The third major federal building built in LA, it remains the most visible and architecturally distinguished.
• In the late 30's murals and sculptures, commissioned by the Treasury Department, were paid for from a budget of one percent of the total construction costs.
