Fakten

  • This building was completed as the Union Industrial Bank Building in 1930 by the Realty Construction Company and included space for seven retail tenants on the ground floor.
  • Construction costs were approximately $2 million.
  • It was the tallest building in the city from 1930-1968 when Genesee Towers was built. It regained title to the tallest building in the city when that tower was demolished in 2013.
  • After the Union Industrial Bank went under in 1944, the Mott Foundation took control of the building, which bears its name to this day.
  • The Mott Foundation was named for auto magnate Charles Stewart Mott.
  • During construction, a 17th floor housing a private club was designed, but was cancelled after the stock market crashed in 1929.
