Fakten

  • Built on a 2.5 acre site in the City of London, Plantation Place has over 345m (1,130ft) of street frontage.
  • The double height entrance hall leads to a spectacular 43m (140ft) tall atrium, and there is direct access from the offices to over 0.75 acres of roof gardens.
  • As with all City of London sites, an archaelogical dig had to be conducted at 31-35 Fenchurch St. before work on Plantation Place could begin. Among the finds were the remains of a Roman town burnt down by Boadicea in AD60, and a hoard of gold coins from the 2nd Century.
  • The upper atrium is linked to the southern elevation via a three-storey glazed wall which maximises daylight penetration to both the upper floors and the lower atrium by way of a connecting portal.
  • Groundwater is drawn into the building to supply the lavatories, replenish the cooling system, provide water for the roof terrace garden and reduce dependency on mains water supply.
  • The new Plantation Lane is bordered by a curving 41 metre (135 feet) long, 6 metre (20 feet) high illuminated public art screen by the artist and Turner Prize nominee Simon Patterson.
  • The stone fins which project from the building are fashioned from Jura limestone and when viewed indirectly lend solidity to the building's façade.
  • The fins are suspended from the roof by steel davits which are then tied back to the panels of the curtain wall.
  • Stone is also used as infill panels on the building's corners as well as on the rainscreens on both sides of the main entrance.
  • The internal atrium, which is glazed, sports laminated glass fins with cores of shattered glass.
  • Plantation Place sports a high-performance double façade which shades and insulates the offices and cuts energy requirements, whilst the inner skin of the upper floor windows can be opened to allow natural ventilation.
  • Plantation Place was designed in a sympathetic way to reflect the historical context of the surrounding buildings.
