Fakten

  • Richard Upjohn, architect of New York's Trinity Church, is said to have considered Saint Paul's his finest building.
  • The design was influenced by 13th century English parish church Gothic.
  • The interior is similar to a hall-type design, with the side aisles reaching almost to the same height as the nave. The nave iis covered by a hammer-beam roof of timber.
  • In 1866, the church was chosen as the Episcopal Cathedral for the Diocese of Western New York, which it has remained ever since.
  • In May 1888, a gas explosion and fire caused severe damage. Repairs were made by Robert W. Gibson, who made significant yet sensitive changes to Upjohn's design.
  • The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
