Fakten

  • On completion, the building was considered to be one of the most sophisticated examples of a glass-walled office building in England.
  • 122 Leadenhall Street was influenced by the architecture seen in Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's Seagram Building in New York and was regarded as being the best example of its type in Britain.
  • The building was re-clad following a terrorist attack conducted by the Irish Republican Army (IRA) in 1992.
  • The site of 122 Leadenhall Street is now occupied by The Leadenhall Building.
  • The top ten floors were suspended from pre-stressed trusses located in the plant room. The lower floors were demolished from the bottom up, then a platform jack was placed around the core and raised as each successive floor was demolished, starting with the lowest first. The core was then demolished from the top down.
