Fakten

  • Headquarters hotel for the 1900 Democratic National Convention which nominated William Jennings Bryan for the U. S. Presidency.
  • During the Great Depression, the opulent hotel went bankrupt in 1938 and was demolished in 1939 to make way for a surface parking lot.
  • Live chamber music was played every evening during dinner in the Renaissance Room, a two-story lightly-colored Italian marble room with a colorful mosaic ceiling.
  • The 30-story City Center Square was completed on the site in 1978.
  • The entire facility was remodelled in 1914 at a total cost of $430,000 and was completely air conditioned at a time when cooling was both novel and a luxury.
  • The Baltimore was the hotel of choice for the local elite and for visiting dignitaries, including several presidents of the United States.
