  • Shell House is an early example of reinforced concrete frame construction.
  • Shell House was Adelaide's 2nd skyscraper to reach a 40m height limit.
  • A large portion of the building was demolished in 1988, but the facade and front section of the building remain.
  • This building is Heritage listed.
  • Shell utilized their own products in the fitting of the building, amongst which included oil fired boilers, control of which was completely automatic.
  • The building had installed automatically controlled fuel oil burners in the basement, which were controlled by the temperature of the rooms.
  • Finishes include terrazo floors, a marble entrance and a red sand cement finish.
  • The interior was fitted out according to Shell company philosophy at the time which was to favour local products.
  • Upon the commencement of construction, the magazine 'Progress in Australia', exclaimed, "the 'up-to-date' 'New Art' ten story office building will include appointments and finishes expected of a successful business house.".
