Fakten

  • Built as the Administration Building for Kansas City Kansas University, it was dedicated September 10, 1894.
  • A small rotunda/mezzanine and a two-story open air observatory/tower with a green, slate roof are probably one of a kind in design and the architect is unknown.
  • On a clear day, one can see into five counties from the high elevation: Wyandotte and Johnson in Kansas; and Jackson, Platte and Clay in Missouri.
  • Likewise, the green slate, domed observatory on high ground in Kansas City, Kansas can be seen from distances of 12 to 15 miles away in Missouri.
  • University Methodist Church was built in 1914 of native stone with six white wood columns across the front entrance and matches the stately elegance of the campus buildings.
  • The only visible remnants of Kansas City, Kansas University still visible today is the University Methodist Church across the street from the present-day Central States Conference Center.
