Fakten

  • The Cooley Center is part of the Thomas M. Cooley Law School, founded in 1972.
  • The school is named for Thomas McIntyre Cooley, an early Michigan Supreme Court Justice and the first commissioner of the Interstate Commerce Commission, appointed by President Grover Cleveland.
  • Originally constructed as the 14-story Commerce Center office building in 1970, it underwent a reconstruction starting in 1999 which removed 8 floors and replacing them with 4 new floors. The renovation also removed the glass exterior replacing it with masonry with two-story curtain wall glass windows.
  • The first phase of the Cooley Center renovation took place in 1999, which including the renovation of floors 1 and 2, and floors 6-10. The second phase included the renovation of a state-of-the-art courtroom complex on the fifth floor in Feburary of 2004. A groundbreaking for the 3rd and 4th classroom facilities took place on April 14th, 2005.
