Fakten

  • This building has been empty for approximately 25 years.
  • The world headquarters later moved to New York City and the training center to St. Louis, but the TWA overhaul base remained at Kansas City International airport throughout TWA's 75 year history..
  • When Trans World Airlines' world headquarters was in Kansas City, MO, this building served as the flight training center for pilots after the furniture store's departure in the mid-'50s.
  • A painted, weather-worn sign still adorns the building's south facade - touting the cities TWA offered non-stop jet service to in the early '60s when such travel was still regarded as novel.
  • The "flight simulator," as the equipment was referred to, was in use at a critical point in the industry as TWA began retiring the DC-3s and Constellations in favor of the sleek, new Boeing 707 jets which could get from KC to either coast in an advertised 3:05 minutes.
  • This building was demolished in February 2005 so the site could be used as a part of the new "Kansas City Live" Development Project.
  • With most of the issues surrounding the fate of the President Hotel resolved, at least two developers are now looking at this building for possible renovation for residential use. Because of the the TWA Airlines connection, there is much sentiment to save the building.
