  • Fire Insurance Maps indicate this building was 133 feet to the main roof, not including the prominent clocktower at the corner of SW Alder Street and 6th Avenue.
  • On March 25, 1922 radio station KGW went live with its iniitial broadcast from their 11th floor studio.
  • The Richarson-Romanesque style tower was the tallest in Oregon when it opened.
  • The building's rooftop was used to gather temperatures and rainfall data for U.S. Army Signal Corps from October 1892 until June 1902.
  • The Reid Brothers designed this building from their offices in San Francisco in 1892.
  • The tower was demolished in the early 1950s.
  • The main section of the building stood 9 floors, and the tower added 4 additional stories, one behind the clock face.
  • The clock pendulum was 9-feet long and weight 100 pounds.
  • The Oregonian Building was the first steel-frame building constructed in the western U.S.
  • The clock was fashioned by E. Howard & Co. of Boston.
