Fakten

  • The building has 9 sides, representing the 9 religions subsumed under the Bahá'í faith.
  • Surrounding the temple is an elaborate garden which reflects the radial pattern of the temple structure.
  • The site is across Sheridan Road from Lake Michigan, and is bordered by the North Shore Channel on the north & west and brick-paved Linden Avenue on the south.
  • This was the first Bahá'í Temple to be constructed in the Western Hemisphere and is therefore sometimes referred to by Bahá'ís as the "Mother Temple of the West".
  • This is the oldest existing Bahá'í temple in the world, and was second only to the Ashkabad Bahá'í House of Worship in Russia, which was destroyed because of earthquake damage.
