  • Garfield died from his assassination wounds on 19 September 1881 in the Elberon section of Long Branch, New Jersey.
  • Dedicated to the memory of James Abram Garfield (1831-1881), 20th President of the United States.
  • The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
  • Lake View Cemetery spans the cities of Cleveland, Cleveland Heights, and East Cleveland. A small, southern section of the Garfield Memorial physically crosses the border into Cleveland Heights.
  • The Garfield Memorial is located within Lake View Cemetery, a 285-acre memorial park founded in 1869.
  • President Garfield was shot on 2 July 1881 at the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Depot formerly located in Washington, DC at and the vacated B Street, a site occupied today by the National Gallery of Art on the National Mall.
