Fakten

  • During the separation of Niernsee and Nielson, Joseph Kemp, an apprentice in Nielson's office, carried out much of the station's design.
  • The station originally featured a 185-ft (56m) clock tower.
  • The station's interior was restored in 2005.
  • Kemp's lack of engineering experience is blamed as the reason the original tower required removal when it became evident it was too heavy for the support bearing its weight.
  • The station was one of the early stops for the rail car in Abraham Lincoln's funeral procession.
  • The station was a stopping point for Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) en route to his 1861 inauguration as the 16th US President.
  • A lighter, replica of the original clock tower was added during the station's exterior renovation coinciding with the opening of Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
  • The Babe Ruth Museum occupies the basement and first floor of the refurbished station.
