  • Vodovzvodnaya Tower had a well and a secret underground passage towards Moskva River.
  • The tower was overbuilt with an extra stone level and a marquee in 1672-1686.
  • It was dismantled in 1805-1806 and later reconstructed anew according to I. Yegotov's design.
  • A ruby star was installed on the tower's top in 1937.
  • Its height without the star is 57.7m.
  • Originally, it was built in 1488 by Anton Fryazin.
  • During the Napoleon’s invasion in 1812, the tower was blown up and rebuilt later under the supervision of architect Osip Beauvais.
  • The tower got its name in 1633, when Christopher Galloway installed a water-pumping machine inside it to take water from Moskva River and send it along lead-coated pipes to the Kremlin Gardens.
  • The tower is situated at the southwestern corner of the Kremlin.
