Vor Frue Kirke

Struktur allgemein

existent [fertiggestellt]

  • A relief sculpture by F.E. Ring above the main entrance depicts the Virgin Mary and baby Jesus.
  • The 20-meter pyramidal spire on the tower was added when the church was rebuilt in 1878.
  • There are 3 bells in the tower, and the smallest is one of the oldest in Denmark, dating back to the latter half of the 12th century.
  • The pulpit was donated to the church in 1581 and shows Christ and the Samaritan woman by the well.
  • The organ was inaugurated April 16th, 1961 and was built by Marcussen and Søn from Aabenraa.
  • The church has space for around 600 seated people.
  • The largest of the bells was formed in 1518 and recast in both 1861 and 1919. It features an inscription from the Song of Mary in Luke's Gospel.
  • The front of the organ dates from 1749 and was restored when the current organ was built.
  • The tower is older than the main church building; the original nave was demolished in 1876 because of deterioration. Only the tower and the Scheelian Chapel belong to the original church.
  • The first altarpiece which dated back to 1619 was badly damaged by fire on April 14th, 1902.
  • Several tombstones are visible in the porch, including the former mayor of Aalborg, Poul Popp.
  • Some of the pipes in the organ date back to 1879 and was made by organ builder Dement.
  • The upper section of the old rococo organ loft survives over the entrance, and displays the Aalborg coat of arms.
  • The church's current altarpiece was received in 1908 and is based on a drawing by professor H. B. Storck. It was painted by the artist Frants Schwartz.
