  • After years of use under different names and different functions, the theater first closed in 1978 under the name of The Grand Circus Theater, but reopened under the same name from 1981 to 1985.
  • The theater last closed in 1985 after it was damaged by a small fire.
  • The 6-story Broadway Tower at the back of the complex contains the Ford Center for Arts and Learning, all of the Michigan Opera's outreach programs, and ground floor retail along Broadway Avenue.
  • The 6th floor of the Broadway Tower contains the DaimlerChrysler Theatre, and intimate theater for experimental and small productions.
  • The Detroit Opera House underwent a complete restoration from 1989 to 1996 which cost over $24 million.
  • The opera house currently contains 2,700 seats, which is a large reduction from the 4,250 seats the opera house opened with in 1922. It claimed to be the fifth largest theater in the world upon its completion.
