Fakten

  • The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, also known as the San Siro, is a football stadium in Milan, Italy.
  • The idea to build a stadium in the same district of the horse racing track, belongs to the man who then was the president of A.C. Milan, Piero Pirelli. The architects designed a stadium only for soccer (there is no athletics track in it).
  • It is the home stadium for two major Italian Football League teams: A.C. Milan and Internazionale, and one of the most famous soccer stadia in the world. The stadium construction started in 1925 in the Milanese district of San Siro, which gave it its original name.
  • The stadium was world-renowned by the the end of the 1940s, with a capacity of 150,000 people. It was the world's biggest stadium until 1950 before the completion of the Maracanà in Rio.
  • Capacity was reduced in the 1960s and again in the 1980s, then at the end of the 1980s the 3rd level was built for an overall capacity of 85,700 seats. Today, it is the second biggest stadium in Europe.
