Fakten

  • The Arizona State Capitol Building was completed in 1900, twelve years before Arizona achieved statehood. It initially served as the seat of the Arizona Territory, which had been established in 1863.
  • Rapid population growth in the second half of the 20th Century quickly rendered the capitol building too small to serve its intended purpose.
  • The building was restored and reopened in 1981 as the Arizona State Capitol Museum.
  • The legislature moved to adjacent facilities in the 1960s, followed by the governor and executive branch to the Arizona State Capitol Executive Tower in 1974.
