Fakten

  • This structure was originally built by the Price family as the headquarters for the Mount Clemens Daily Leader newspaper, which they owned.
  • The Emsee Theatre cinema opened on the ground floor and mezzanine of the building in 1946. But, due to the popularity of drive-in movie theaters, at the time, the theater was closed in 1959.
  • The Macomb Daily finally moved from the building in 1994, after 64 years in the building, leaving it empty. It has been vacant ever since.
  • This building was Mount Clemen's first, modern high-rise, although it was quickly eclipsed as the city's tallest when the Macomb County Building was completed just one year later in 1931.
  • In 1947, the building also housed the WMLN-FM radio station, but the radio station didn't survive for long, because at the time very few people owned FM receivers. The radio station shut down in 1954.
  • With the merging of the Daily Leader with the Daily Monitor in 1942, the building was renamed the Mount Clemens Daily Monitor-Leader Building. In 1962, after another newspaper merger, the building was renamed the Mount Clemens Daily Building.
