Kansas City is the third largest city in the state of Kansas and the seat of Wyandotte County. It is part of the greater metropolitan area that is comprised of cities on both sides of the state line of Kansas and Missouri. The city was formed in 1868 and incorporated in 1872. Its immigrant and industrial heritage can be seen in the historic church steeples and bell towers downtown. The Village West Development Corridor is home to the 82,000-seat Kansas Speedway, the Legends Shopping Center, and the Schlitterbahn waterpark and vacation resort. Famous Kansas City Kansans by birth include: actors Ed Asner and Dee Wallace Stone, jazz musician Charlie "Bird" Parker, track and field sprinter Maurice Greene, and professional golfer Bruce Leitzke.
