The European Central Bank (ECB) is planning to move from their existing headquarters Eurotower to this Großmarkthalle site.
The City of Frankfurt is allowing the ECB to build highrises up to 160m (525ft).
The ECB acquired the Großmarkthalle-site on March 5, 2002.
An international architectural design and urban planning competition was launched in the second half of 2002.
The development of the site is due to start in 2005 and finish in 2008.
The settlement of the ECB in this part of town has shown positive effects on the area, where investors have already announced plans for several more developments including a shopping mall with an office tower (Büroturm Honsell-Dreieck).
The final concept for the ECB HQ was presented in Fall 2004.
